Petition to Register in Courses with Overlapping Times

Students who wish to enroll in back-to-back courses (or those with overlapping times) must complete the “Course Overlap Request” form. Completing the form requires the approval of one of the instructors involved in the course time conflict. Without written permission, students will not be allowed to register for courses that are separated by less than one minute or overlap in the time they are offered. Verbal permission will not allow the student to register.

This policy applies to online classes with scheduled meetings that overlap with scheduled meetings of another class (whether online or in person class). Online classes without scheduled meetings (asynchronous) do not overlap or present travel time issues and are exempt from this policy.

Approval of this petition will require:

  • A rational justification (not scheduling convenience)
  • A written plan by the faculty member assigned to the second class indicating the manner by which the student will be required to make up the time of overlap.  The missed time must be made up during the same week at some other established time under appropriate supervision.
  • Approval by the Divison Dean or Vice President of Instruction

1. Complete the information about the course that is causing a conflict.

2. The Instructor of the course will agree or not agree to a course modification. This Instructor is not required to make a modification. 

3. If agreed the modification will be made and the form form submitted for completion.

4. The course will be added to your schedule by the Office of the Admissions & Records staff and you will be notified via email.

Faculty proposal of weekly schedule for making up overlapping hours of Class 2. 

Please include date, times and place you intend to meet with the student enabling the student to gain the instruction missed. The time spent must equate to the same number of instructional hours missed each class meeting per week in order to enable the student to gain the instructional time/content missed.
